                                                Bishnu Rabha ,the name of a writer , the name of an artist , the name of a freedom fighter ,the name of a player , the name of the headache of the British and the name of a peace of flesh striken with poverty and in sufficiency.
This genius of Assam was born on 31st january ,1909 in a military barrack in Dhaka,Bangladesh. At that time Dhaka was a part of the undivide India. His father Gopal Chandra Rabha was a Subedar Major of the Assam rifles. His mother was Gethi Bala Rabha. His educational life started in Military Primary School. After his father’s death their family came to Tezpur and he was admitted in the Tezpur Government High School in Class ‘IV’. He passed his Matriculation examination in 1926 with good results and was awarded the “Queen Express Award.
When he was in Class XII, the Non-cooperation movement under the leadership of Gandhiji took place on every nook and corner of India. Bishnu Rabha was encouraged by Gandhiji’s ideal and he actively participated in this movement.
From his childhood Bishnu Rabha was a courageous boy and he always wanted to live independently. He can be considered as the greatest revolutionary son of Assam. Bishnu Rabha was a great politician of Assam. He joined Communist Party and did various jobs as a leader for his party. He was arrested by the police many times;. He tried to build a casteless society among the people. Ishnu Rabha was once appointed the Member of Legislative Assembly.
Bishnu Prasad Rabha was a man of multiple talents. First of all, he was an excellent singer and he tuned and used to write his songs and sang them himself. He was an ingenious in classsical music also. He collected money by singing songs to help the victims of flood in Tezpur. He was proficient in musical instruments like the Harmonium, Mouth Organ, Sitar,Tabla, Violin etc. Apart from this he was an eminent Actor. He acted in Assamese films and dramas.


Bishnu Rabha did everything for the development of the Assamese society and culture. He grouped the farmers of Assam without any discrimination and protested against the rich landlords. He wanted economic and independence among the people. He distributed the 2000 Bighas of land among the farmers which land his father was awarded from the British. He tried his level best to keep our pigment culture alive and advised us, the Assamese society , to live in unity and peace. The contribution Bishnu Prasad Rabha to the Assamese society is praiseworthy.
This great man of Assam passed away on 20th June, 1969 because of cancer. Today, Bishnu Rabha is not with us, but in the field of Assamese culture, literature and politics, his name is and will always be brightened with golden letters……………

Bishnu Prasad Rabha's father's name was Raibahadu Gopal Chandra Mushahary who worked as as a police under British regime. He was born to a Bodo family and was later raised by a Rabha family. Since, he was raised by a Rabha Family, he adopted the 'Rabha' surname.
